WELL!!! I'm not sure if i already told you in the last blog, but I'm kinda new to the whole blogging it up deal. I am a fan of Donald Miller, the author of Blue Like Jazz, and Through Painted Deserts. Donald Miller's style is one of the few that truly captivates me. I'm not a big fan of reading but I dunno, I can just see the passion in his writing. He truly loves what he does. Ok, so getting to the point about the new blogging deal, Donald Miller has artsy moments in his books and so I have had days where I'm like, how could I could turn this into a Donald Miller moment? woah! Now that I got that out of my system, This is post number two for Finding God on Your Ipod. I topic that has been really relavant in my life is passion. If you dont know me, I'm a really emotional person and I love to feel love for something, to have passion in any area of my life. I used to get the goosebumps in times when I felt intimate with God and lately, theres just not too much of that going on. I'm not sure if its a lack of pursuit on my part or if its a season of life to build me up. But! Earlier Tonite I was watching John Mayer in concert. I love the guitar and for the other guitar players, he's pretty much fantastic! But one thing that stands out in his style of guitar to me is the passion. You can see in his face and his songs that he honestly just loves the music. In Blue Like Jazz, Miller talked about there was a saxophone player on the street and he stood there for 15 minutes and the man never opened his eyes. What does it mean to be so passionate; so intense; so dedicated. I think about Jesus and about how He couldnt have lived the life that He did without an insane amount of passion in His life. I'm not talking about a specific song for John Mayer, but I just think its absolutely amazing and beautiful that John Mayer can be so passionate about something. Why is it that in my life, I have trouble living a life thats passionate about Christ when He's so much greater than music. I'm just searching.

Dear Jacob,
I really enjoyed this blog a lot. John Mayer is absolutely amazing!! and you just gave me another reason to love his music.
I do hope you continue writing moving blogs because i will always love reading them. You should just fly home and party at my house. I'll hide you under my bed! no one will ever know.
Anyway, i am really trying to keep this short (that bit under the bed was pretty unique).
Stay safe and never think twice about texting/aiming/myspace-ing me

Hello, allow me to introduce myself. I am a friend of Amy's, and was asked to read your post. Upon doing so, I realized I can relate to the central point of your ideas: serving God deserves an unspeakable passion. I don't understand all these music guitarists, but it's great that you have a role model who can instill virtues of God just from watching him. I think it's great that you can identify the areas of virtues in your life. I find that it's sometimes difficult to notice your severing relationship with God. I try not to speak advice to you, as I highly doubt my life has more wisdom than yours. However, I truly hope you will find the passion you long for.

PS Amy wanted me to tell you English is my second language... Mandarin is my first.
So amy asked me to comment on this blog, and i must say that upon my first read, it made me a bit uncomfortable. see im not really religious, so i wouldn't be looking at these blogs in the first place. however it really is great that some people can feel so passionately about something. so heres your comment, and i guess thats good.
keep on living and dont stop sharing your passions with those your care for. :]
This is "Jeffimus" again.
This whole concept is really foreign to me. I'm also not religious, so to have such complete faith is sort of incomprehensible to me. I don't mean that in a bad way at all, I think it's great how strong your faith is, I just can't imagine myself ever being like that. Well, I hope you rediscover your passion.
The very first definition of "passion" that comes up in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary actually refers to the Passion of Christ. And an old, obsolete definition of the word is "suffering." I think that too much of the modern definition of passion relies on emotion. While emotions can easily be swayed, and they come and go with the changing of our surroundings, Passion does not. Passion is something that remains through the midst of heartache. Passion is a calm, quiet, suffering love when our face is being spat on. I could write about passion forever, because it's one of my favorite things on earth. It's so interesting. Good blog.
I'm having a heck of a time getting any of these comments posted, btw.
Jake,
you are an amazing writer. i love how passionate you get about things..even watching you at hume lake this past summer, everytime an emotional song would come on, you would be on your knees-eyes closed-praising God from the bottom of your heart. You're an amazing kid with knowledge beyond your years. This post has helped me to open up my eyes, and realize that I have really been neglecting God lately, and I want to feel passionate about Him again.
Wow jake! ur quite the blogger. I can relate alot to this one tho!
