Surrender

"At the most I’m a glare,
I’m the hopeless son who’s hardly there.
I’m the open sign that’s always busted.
I’m the friend you need, but can’t be trusted."

Seem kinda emo? Well too bad, it's not. This is a guy named Patrick Park, someone I've just recently discovered now that I'm full swing into my "acoustic" phase of music. This is the chorus to his song "Something Pretty" and for me, it was one of those "WAKE UP I'M A METAPHOR" songs.

It seems that sometimes I treat God like a vending machine, whenever I get a craving or if I have some spare change. But that's not how it works. God is a constant, something that's always there FOREVER AND EVER. We should never use God as "a friend you need, but can't be trusted" because that's not how he sees us. For some reason that none of us will ever be able to imagine, God chose to love us and be with us forever. Surrendering ourselves to him is a small price to be close to him.....think about it, we're chillin with the God of the UNIVERSE!!!!!!!

cool, i never thought of it like that. I like vending machines. They're noncommital and don't judge you on what you want from them and they don't care when you kick them or bang on them cause your bag of chips got stuck (at least i don't think they mind). I guess that's part of why it's easy to treat God like a vending machine, but He's not. We can't change God to meet our "needs," we need to change ourselves to become more like Him. And like Katherine said, choosing to follow Him is such a small price to pay for spending eternity with God. No vending machine I've seen has ever offerd such a great deal.

no kidding....God's much more than the best vending machine on the earth, even better than the refrigerated one at Robinson (isn't that cool, though? the water, muffins, even the PEANUTS are cold!!! WOW)

absolute surrender

home stretch, Katherine!!!
cool metaphor, I like it. Metaphors always put things in perspective for me. I'm glad you used one. That's an awesome song, too!

this is a great point...God is always a constant in our lives and we should treat him like it. I sometimes lose track of God when I'm caught up in school or sports, and it definately hurts my relationship with him. I don't want it to be that way, we have to be fully devoted to him, always!

I too lose myself in day-to-day activities, it gets annoying sometimes when we get disconnected from God. But this is when we have to believe in God being a constant. He's never gonna ignore us or turn us away and we have to remember that

absolute surrender is so hard to do sometimes. Our human nature tells us to hold back. But when it comes to God, we can't hold back anything because no matter what we do, he'll be standing right beside us.

we have to be willing to trust and to love God with our entire being...even if those Doritos that are stuck on the hook make us angry.... :)
